When a spinning top runs absolutely smoothly without trembling - just as if it was standing on a point one says:   ” The top, it sleeps.”
If the speed goes down and the spinning top starts to whirl one says:  ”The top, it is beginning to wake up.”

My hand-crafted spinning tops are generelly composed of three basic parts: the handle ot the spinning tops, the main body and the tip. These three components - in connection with the choice of combinations made possible by the variety of different materials I use in my work - present an ongoing challenge for me to create even more new variations from the infinity of possibilities.
The material I work with is mainly homogeneous wood such as ebenoy, various kind of rosewood and other types of hardwood (for further reading on the history of the “edo” spinning top I suggest Toshio Ishii’s book EDOGOMA, Tokio 1993)
Furthermore, for some time now my interest has been attracted by other materials - materials rather non-typical for the woodturner, such as bone, amber and roebuck antler, which I like to incorporate into my spinning top “compositions” in an harmonious way. My basic skills as a goldsmith and other crafts contribute to my work and lend an idividual, very personal touch to my spinning tops
